The same lawyer who once helped Melania Trump immigrate to the United States is now fighting her husband's immigration ban. While it might seem ironic that Mrs. Trump's own lawyer is now fighting her husband's ban, it's par for the course that an immigration lawyer would defend whoever hires him, regardless of their political affiliation. The Independent reports that Michael Wildes, a New York based attorney and former counsel to Mrs. Trump, is one of the people currently fighting her husband's immigration ban in the courts. Does that mean Melania is a secret Muslim? Here's hoping some of Wildes' cases will result in broadly applicable rulings so that immigrants without millions of dollars can benefit from his legal work, too.

Melania Trump's immigration lawyer, who has also represented her husband's organisation in visa battles, is now fighting his presidential executive order barring travel from seven predominantly Muslim countries. Mr Trump's executive order barred citizens from Yemen, Iraq, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan and Syria, from travelling to the US for 90 days. The travel ban for the 7 countries listed above is 90 days, and the refugees ban is 4 months. At least 1,000 Yemeni-owned bodegas and grocery-stores across the city shut down from noon to 8 p.m. today to protest the order. Despite his support for the First Lady in the past, Mr Wildes appears less than impressed with her husband's attempt to bar travellers from some Muslim countries.
Trump approached Wildes last September when questions surfaced regarding Melania Trump's immigration to the US. An immigration lawyer, Wildes is speaking out against Trump's January 27 executive order that banned immigrants and refugees from seven Muslim majority nations. While Wildes is certainly not the only one to oppose the president's order, he isn't just any immigration lawyer: He represents First Lady Melania Trump in immigration matters. Wildes wouldn't clarify their immigration status, saying only "they are here."As for the executive order, Wildes agrees the nation must be protected. The firm, founded by his father Leon Wildes, represents Trump Models, President Trump's NY modeling agency and secures visas for models in the Miss Universe pageants.
